In the series "Necessities" we follow the work of farmers Barbara, Fabrizio and Ada residing in Erbezzo, Italy. The photographs focuses on the lengthy labour and innumerable tools necessary in their everyday practice of producing cheese from goats milk.

The presentation of this projects lends the concept from that of a manual, or a step by step guide. The titles accompanying the images is deliberately concrete in relationship to what the image contains. However, this "manual" doesn't give away the exact instructions or ingredients. From these photographic observations there are other things to be learned, such as the time, knowledge and skill required by the farmers. Central in many of the series photographs is also the portrayal of physical labour. The body of the farmer is needed in almost almost every step of the process. Not only for milking, but also carrying fences and moving your herd each and everyday. The mountainous terrain of Lessinia adds an extra demanding layer while performing these activities up and down the hills.

This work was made during the SÅM Lessinia residency in 2022, hosted by Fonderia 20.9 (Verona, IT).
